Introduction

Welcome to the PDA Telemetry System project website. Software Engineering Project (SEP) is a combination of two units spread over two consecutive semesters for students studying either the Bachelor of Computing or majoring in Computing. SEP aims to give the participating students valuable real-world experience in being part of a small development team working on a mid-sized software project.

Our team ¨C which we have named 'Splash IT', tendered for and won the right to work on this project at the start of the year. This website is designed to provide information about the project itself, the client, the team, the tools and the stages required to complete development of the proposed system.

Background

A 'SoftPLC' is a software version of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) that is run on a conventional Personal Computer (PC). PLCs control and monitor an automated process. The proposed system aims to extend the functionality of a SoftPLC.

Project

By utilising the latest in mobile and wireless technologies, the System will provide the SoftPLC with a mobile interface. Implementation of the proposed system will extend the power of the control systems' interface; for Operators and Engineers alike, out of the control room and onto the plant floor.

It will be able to display trend information for multiple definable Tags in a trend graph, display and update Setpoint values for Tags and also view and acknowledge Alarms as they are encountered. It will be fully configurable and be easy to use. At completion of the System our team will have produced an information rich maintenance tool that is accessible anywhere that the user may roam throughout a plant.
